April 6, 2020
Dear Spring Conference REGISTERED Attendee,
We were all looking forward to the KASBO Spring conference as a time of networking with school
finance folks from across the state and learning ways to perform our daily work. With events beyond
our control the Spring Conference has been officially cancelled. Hotels are not allowing gatherings
during the month of May and are not taking new bookings for this year.
We know that you are just as disappointed as we are. With a time of sheltering in place we were all
looking for a light at the end of the tunnel and promise of seeing people again.
However, please don’t write off KASBO until November! We are excited to develop several of our
Spring Conference classes by way of video or ZOOM. At the end of this letter you will see a list of
course offerings. By watching these videos, you will still be able to earn Finance Officer hours.
Additionally, we will hopefully reschedule the MUNIS Academy for a date to still be determined and we
will offer regional trainings this Summer.
There are many expenses that take place well in advance of the conference. (CVent Software for
registration, keynote speaker cost, conference signage and salaries). While we are able to get refunds
on several items, we are not able to get refunds on everything because services and goods have already
been consumed or delivered. Completely having to cancel the conference represents nothing less than a financial strain for the Association, however finances could not be the sole determinant in our decision to hold the conference. We also had to go by the CDC recommendations, hotel guidance and consider the safety of everyone involved and that is our number one priority. We have options below that will give you the opportunity to receive continuing education hours related to Finance Officer Certification or Professional Development hours and options for refunds. Please read carefully. There are no catches or small print. We have laid out the guidelines as clear as
All cancellations must be done individually by the registrant and in writing to email@example.com and include the option that you choose for refund. Request must be submitted no later than April 30, 2020.
- You may consider the ongoing cost of the organization and donate the full amount you have paid. You will have access to all videos that we publish in regard to Spring 2020 Conference topics and Spring Conference Conference handouts. You will also be able to attend our 2020 regional summer trainings at no additional cost to you. Directions will be sent to you at a later date about how to access the videos through our APP – CrowdCompass. Our goal is to launch the videos about the same time as we would have held the conference. Be patient with us as we work through the logistics. Our plan is to offer at least 13 so that you will still be able to obtain a full certificate of hours for maintaining your FO Certificate or Professional Development requirements.
- You may request a refund less $200 and apply $100 towards the fall conference. You will have access to choose 4 videos that we publish. You will be able to modify your registration and choose the classes. Directions will be sent to you to at a later date about how to access the videos through our APP-CrowdCompass. Please indicate in your email the classes you choose for registration. Our goal is to launch the videos about the same time as we would have held the conference. Be patient with us as we work through the logistics. You will receive credit for viewing these sessions.
- You may request a full refund less $100. This will help cover expenses already incurred by the organization.
- If you have not yet paid your registration fees please submit only $100 per person to cover the cost of expenses incurred by the organization.
We will process refunds as timely as possible after the cutoff date of April 30, 2020. Please note, we are unable to issue refunds for credit card fees. Lifetime membership fees will not be refunded. Any conference registration fees that were paid by credit card will be refunded by check. All refunds will be made payable to the district unless a copy of your personal payment is submitted with request.
Galt House Reservations – you do not need to call the Galt House. The Galt House will cancel all reservations that were made in the KASBO room block. You will receive an email from the Galt House in a few days indicating that your reservation has been cancelled.
If you have any questions please reach out to me by email, firstname.lastname@example.org. We currently have over 300 registered for the conference. I will respond to all as soon as possible.
Mark your calendars for November 17 – 20, 2020. As an added bonus we will expand our Fall 2020 Conference and registration fees will remain the same as last Fall. We are excited that we have been able to rebook our Spring Keynote speaker, Robyn Benincasa. She will be presenting on Wednesday, November 18 during our opening session. We hope to see you at the Marriott Griffin Gate in Lexington! Fall Conference registration will be launched in early September.
